6TH ANNUAL FL WINTER TOUR DETAILS
|
 |
FAQ's
The biggest change this year is that
we are running more race days ( 6 ),
over less event weekends (3) . The Tour
will allow one drop race, making this
a best 5-of-6 Tour.
In the past the FL Winter Tour has been
a 5 race-day Tour that occurred over
5 event weekends. Most of you know that
the most expensive part of any racing
program is the travel and lodging expense.
Another big concern is the amount of
out-of-school and away-from-work time
for those attending. Because of these
concerns, we have adopted the time and
money saving "double-race-weekend"
format for the 2004 FL Winter Tour.
The response we have received since
the announcement of the format tells
me it was the right move.
In the past the event-weekend consisted
of a Saturday of practice and qualifying,
followed by a Sunday of racing. This
year we will have practice, qualifying
and racing on both Saturday and Sunday.
Each race-day will begin with an engine
break-in session, followed by one 10
minute practice session, followed by
a 10 minute by-class qualifying session,
then a 15* lap pre-final, and then a
25 lap final for Pro 125 and Formula
S1, and a 20 lap final for all other
classes*.
* If the Mini Max class meets the homologation
requirements and is included in the
race-day they will run a 10 lap pre-final
and a 15 lap final.
PIT PASSES
As in the past Formula Kart will sell
pit passes for the event-weekend , Saturday
and Sunday. Driver entry does not include
pit pass. As in the past, each pit pass
will cover both Saturday and Sunday.
PRACTICE DAYS

CLASSES
Go to www.formulakart.com and look in
the "FK NEWS" section for
a detailed listing of available classes.
TIRES
MG tire is the official dry race-tire
. Rain tires are open. As in the past
competitors must purchase their race-tires
from Formula Kart. Those tires must
be used beginning at qualifying, until
the end of the race-day . Damaged tires
may be replaced at the discretion of
the race director. Competitors do not
have to buy a new set of tires for each
race-day . If they choose to run the
same set of tires for the complete event-weekend
they can, but the tires they run on
Sunday must be the same tires they ran
on Saturday. We will require competitors
to purchase a set of race tires for
each event-weekend . The price we charge
for the tires is set by MG, and will
match their published retail price.
The price reflected on the registration
forms includes FL State sales tax.
PRO 125 will have the option of racing
the MG XZ or the MG MZ. They cannot
mix compounds. Pro 125 competitors will
race whichever compound they present
at qualifying each race-day. All other
classes will race the MG MZ . No tire
treatment is allowed. It is the competitors
responsibility to make sure they have
the correct stamped tires on the kart
when they present for qualifying. It
is the competitors responsibility to
make sure the tires get marked after
qualifying. If the Mini Max class meets
the homologation requirement and is
included in the race-day they will run
MG MZ 4.6 on all four corners.
FUEL
VP fuel and oil is the official spec
fuel and oil. All competitors must use
the spec fuel and oil beginning at qualifying
until the end of the race-day . As in
the past competitors must purchase a
minimum quantity of spec fuel and oil
for each event-weekend . The minimums
for each event-weekend for each class-entry
is 4 gallons of fuel and one container
of oil. Additional fuel and oil will
be available.
ICC and Rotax classes will run M98 fuel
only ! Moto competitors will run C12
only ! Competitors have the option of
running either C2 synthetic or RC3 castor
oils. Maximum ratio of 7 ounces to the
gallon.
RULES
Unless otherwise noted we will be using
the 2003 SKUSA engine and chassis rules,
including any "corrections and
updates" published in 2003. Formula
Jr (80 shifter ) will allow front brakes
with a 10 pound weight penalty.
ROTAX MAX
Per the published rules, SKUSA requires
all Rotax engines to be sealed U.S.
or Canadian motors. It will be MANDATORY
for ALL Rotax competitors to provide
current/accurate/up-to-date engine passports
at registration . No one will be allowed
to compete in the Rotax classes unless
they provide this information at registration.
NO EXCEPTIONS ! I will be personally
checking the passports of each Rotax
competitor. Make sure you and your fellow
Rotaxians are prepared.
RACE-DAY RESULTS
It is our hope to once again provide
almost-live race-day results at SKUSA

We are currently actively seeking a
sponsor for the Event Labs results service.
If you are interested in sponsoring
this excellent service, please contact
me ASAP. I don't think you'll find a
better place to spend your advertising
dollars.
