Official 2004 FL Region Rotax Max Challenge
|
 |
Hello all,
I have been receiving many emails that make it clear that there
is a great deal of confusion about the current relationship between
Formula Kart and the Official 2004 FL Region Rotax Max Challenge.
As many of you know, up until Dec 31, 2003 FK Motorsports was
the exclusive FL Region distributor for Rotax FR125 engines and
parts. That exclusive distribution relationship required that
Formula Kart promote Regional Rotax Max Challenge races. In 2003,
with the help of Rysa Racing, we promoted 3 separate Local Challenges
( North, Central, South ) , with 89 unique competitors and qualifying
43 drivers for the U.S. Grand Finals. We finished off our FL Region
competition year at the 2003 FL RMax State Championships, an invitational
event, with free entry to the top 10 drivers from each of the
3 FL Local Challenges. There they competed for the title of State
Champion, and we awarded the first ( and maybe last? ) Formula
Kart Cup to the Local Challenge that scored the most points in
the State Championships competition. ( Those pesky South FL folks
have the Cup ! )
On December 31, 2003 my contract with SSC Racing expired, and
the FL Region was sold to Al Duenas. I was never offered the opportunity
to renew my contract.
At the 2003 FL RMax State Championships event, I outlined my plans
for the 2004 FL Region RMax Challenge Series. The plan included
a North and a South Challenge, to be run at multiple venues around
the state, and to be run as "stand-alone" events, meaning
the events would only include Rotax Max Challenge classes. This
was a very exciting part of the growth of the program, and myself
and many of you were looking forward to finally having our own
series. Unfortunately, the business model for that plan included
Formula Kart being the exclusive distributor, with the associated
sales and profits from that distribution offsetting the substantial
costs of promoting the Series in that manner. Once the distribution
was sold to Al Duenas, I had to review the associated costs of
promoting the "stand-alone" Challenge, and without the
additional income from the engine and parts sales, I could not
afford to promote the Challenges in that way.
I was asked by Al to come up with a plan to promote the 2004 Challenge
Series. I outlined that plan to both Al Duenas and Joe Ramos.
The plan called for a single 5 race FL Region Challenge that would
travel to 5 different venues around the state. The plan was rejected.
I have no other information about the 2004 FL Region Rotax Max
Challenges.
Al Duenas owns SSC South. He is now the exclusive distributor
for Rotax FR 125 engines and parts, and Rotax RM1 karts and parts
in the Southeast. He is also responsible for promoting the Rotax
Max Challenge Series in the Southeast. Any questions about the
official 2004 FL Region Challenge Series should be directed to
Al or his staff. Their phone number is 305-378-1801.
As far as I know, FK Motorsports is still a FL Region Rotax Max
dealer, and an authorized engine Service Center. I have engines
and parts in stock. At this time I still plan to provide track-side
support and arrive-and-drive services to Rotax Max customers at
events throughout 2004. At this time I plan to promote a Series
of races in the Southeast the will be known as the Formula Kart
Sprint and Endurance Series and the Formula Kart FL State Karting
Championships . I will announce classes, dates and venues ASAP.
I am waiting for schedules for the FL Region Challenges to be
released so that I don't conflict with those dates. Make sure
you check at www.formulakart.com often for the latest news from
Formula Kart.
Thank you for your support. I look forward to seeing all of you
"on Course!" soon !
